Chanel History

1883 Chanel is born.

1895 Her mother dies.

1904 Coco gets a starting job.

1909 The House of Chanel originated, when Gabrielle Chanel opened a millinery shop at 160 Boulevard Malesherbes.

1913 opens her first shop.

1915 opens second shop.

1921 Coco creates Chanel NO 5.

1926 Creates little black dress.

1939 Closes shops leaving only perfume and jewellery for sale.

1971 Coco Chanel dies.

1983 Karl Lagerfeld who is German became head designer for the House of Chanel in 1983.

1984 new fragrance release in celebration for the labels success to continue.

1986 the House of Chanel made a deal with some watchmakers and in 1987, the first Chanel watch was released.

1990 sales were hurt by recession.

1995 Chanel recovered due to a further boutique expansion.

2000 was the launch of the first unisex watch by Chanel.

2001 Chanel launched a small selection of menswear as a part of their runway shows.

2002 Chanel launched the Chance perfume

2003 They brought out In between wear to target younger women.
